Hoppus CFT Grade Girth

Teak wood price in Chennai.

We do not publish a rate, because an honest one would be wrong by next month. Here is what actually moves the number, so you can judge any quote you are given, including ours.

Teak is not one product with one price. Two logs sitting beside each other on the same stack can be worth very different money, and any dealer quoting you a single rate for teak without asking a question first is quoting you something meaningless.

Origin matters most. Burma teak grows slowly, carries more oil and costs the most. Benin, Nigerian and Colombian teak are the same species grown faster elsewhere, and they cost less. Then grade, first, medium or second quality. Then the girth and length of the log, because big clean logs are rarer and cut with less waste. Then quantity, and then the market on the day.

The other thing that moves a quote is the measure. Round logs are sold in Hoppus cubic feet, which deliberately sits about 21.5 per cent below true cylindrical volume because that gap is the slab waste when the log is squared. One ton is 50 cubic feet by trade custom. If you compare a Hoppus quote against a true volume quote you will reach the wrong conclusion about which is cheaper.

So before you compare two prices, check they are on the same measure, the same grade and the same origin. Work your own volume out on our free timber calculator, which is open to everybody whether or not you ever buy a foot of timber from us. Then call and we will give you the number for today.

Questions

What buyers ask about price.

How much does teak wood cost per cubic foot in Chennai?

There is no single answer, and anyone who gives you one without asking about origin, grade, girth and quantity is guessing. Burma teak sits at the top, West African and plantation teaks below it, and grade moves it again. Call us with your sizes and we will quote for the day.

Why do two dealers quote such different rates for teak?

Usually because they are quoting different things: a different origin, a different grade, or a different measure. Hoppus and true volume differ by about 21.5 per cent on the same log, which is enough on its own to make the cheaper quote look dearer.

How many cubic feet are in one ton of timber?

Fifty. It is a trade convention rather than a weight, and it is the same across the market.

How do I compare two teak quotes fairly?

Put them on the same basis. Same origin, same grade, same measure, and be clear whether sawing to your sizes is included. Once those match, the comparison is real.
