Colombian teak in Chennai.
South American plantation stock. Even, predictable and clean to machine, which is exactly what a production shop wants.
Colombian teak comes from managed plantations in South America. Because the trees are grown under controlled conditions, the timber is unusually consistent. Pale straw gold, regular rings, very little surprise from one piece to the next.
That predictability is the point. If you are running a workshop, quoting a job by the piece, or machining a repeated component, timber that behaves the same way every time is worth real money. Waste drops and nothing has to be re-cut.
It is plantation grown rather than forest grown, which some buyers care about and others do not. If it matters to you, ask and we will tell you exactly what a lot is.

What buyers ask about Colombian teak.
Is plantation teak weaker than forest teak?
Not weaker, but usually younger, which means less heartwood, wider rings and less oil. For interior work that difference rarely shows. For heavy exterior exposure, older forest teak such as Burma still has the edge.
Why is Colombian teak so even in colour?
Because the trees are grown in managed plantations under similar conditions and harvested at a similar age. Consistent growing gives consistent timber.
